The Little One : Read the previous part here Part 4
OR Read from the beginning Part 1

Alfi was now into the fifth year of her life..
Her little brother, Hussain, who was two years younger to her, had joined pre-school…
She would take care of him when he needed her at school..
And at home they would shake up the whole place with their running around and shouting and playing!!
Masha Allah! They were such joy to our hearts!
I had become a bit busy with a job and with getting my Master’s degree now..
During my lesser frequent visits, bhabi would tell me about how Alfi was not keeping very well now..
Sometimes I stayed with her and Alfi, so that she wouldn’t feel lonely, during Faiz bhai’s absence due to work in another country..
Alfi would be a good girl while taking her medicines..
She would quietly eat her food… And avoid the ones that the doctor asked her to..
I would feel sad when she would ask,
“Mummy can I eat one spoon of ice-cream? Only one spoon.. Please?”
And at other times,
“Alfi wants just one small piece of chingy (chicken), then enough.”
And she would stop at that while others ate in front of her…
SubhanAllah! The patience she showed!
She would never be stubborn or create a fuss.
I would cry at her innocence!
I met her around two months later, again during Eid..
She asked me,
“Fyji, where were you for so many days? Why didn’t you come to meet Alfi?”
I told her,
“Fyji had to go away for classes and exams no, that’s why Fyji couldn’t come.
Does Alfi want to go home and stay with Fyji?”
And her face lit up at that. She forgave me for my absence!
She hurried to pack up her clothes and everything else.
And while at it she told,
“Alfi will stay with fyji for one, two, three, four, five, six days!!
“
(Showing the numbers on her cute tiny little fingers
)
And she came home with me..
She played and played. She did not want me to take rest for even a moment.
While we were having lunch, she joyously finished her fried fish and dug into mine and then my mom’s plate!!
And she mischievously grinned and told,
“Don’t tell mummy that Alfi ate so much fish ok?”
Hahaha! It was heartwarming to see her eat one of her favourite foods – fish!
After lunch when I lied down to take rest for some time, she refused to nap.
She played with the soft toys in my room.
And when I opened my eyes around half an hour later, I found her lying next to me..
She was sobbing!
“Alfi! What happened to my little princess??”
She refused to speak… She was tired and I guessed she wanted her mom..
She fell asleep for a while.. And when she woke up she started crying again…
“Alfi wants to go home! Alfi wants to see mummy!”
It was her first time away from home…
I rang up bhabi and and asked her to come…
It was time for dinner by the time they came..
Faiz bhai and bhabi came to find her asleep on the couch..
Maybe what the baby really meant was 6 hours and not days..

“On no soul doth Allah Place a burden greater than it can bear “
[Surah al-Baqarah 2:286]
**
Narated Abu Huraira:
The Messenger of Allah said,“He whom Allah intends good, He makes him to suffer from some affliction”
(Al-Bukhari)
**
Abu Yahya Suhaib bin Sinan reported:
The Messenger of Allah said, “How wonderful is the case of a believer; there is good for him in everything and this applies only to a believer. If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is good for him”
(Muslim)
**
‘Aisha, one of the wives of Prophet Muhammad, said:
“I never saw anybody suffering so much from sickness as Allah’s Apostle.”
(Al Bukhari)
**
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Apostle said, “The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant; from whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it, but when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with Calamities (but he remains patient till Allah removes his difficulties.) And an impious wicked person is like a pine tree which keeps hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when He wishes.”
(Al Bukhari)
